I remember the first time I ever saw one of these flowers. It was at our old house (pre-Viola). We lived on about 6.5 acres back then (I think), and about half the back yard was fenced in. Occasionally we’d trek back behind the back yard, down to a little, almost-perpetually dry creek. One day when we were hiking back to the house, something with vibrant purple hairs caught my eye. Of course, I ran over to see what it was. What I found almost scared me! We studied that strange-looking flower-like-something-or-other for a while, but we didn’t dare touch it. I believe we determined that it was probably poisonous. 😛

Oh, and the crepe myrtle is beginning to put on some blooms. 🙂
