A few links
July 31, 2008
A while back I considered writing a post about several aspects of chivalry, but I never wrote anything I was satisfied with. It is something that has been on my mind quite a lot lately, so when Jessica sent these links I thought I’d share them here instead of trying to come up with more or less the same thing in my own words. I also wanted to mention a circumstance that happened several weeks ago that illustrates one of the writer’s points quite well, I think.
We were on our way to church (early, in fact!), and with it being a two and a half hour drive we had a short pit stop at a Cracker Barrel. I ran in to get rid of some trash, and as I was coming back out a man held the door open for me. This is not an uncommon occurrence here in the South (perhaps anywhere, I don’t know). I answered with the usual “Thank you,” but what particularly struck me was how it seemed to floor the guy! Of course, I’m weird anyway, with long skirts and modest tops, but he seemed so surprised by my response that it really kind of shocked me! I like to think it was my response anyway, bu whatever it was, it was a great reminder to me of how important it is never to take for granted the chivalrous men and boys I am surrounded by! Many, many thanks to the wonderful gentlemen in my life!!! Y’all have really helped me learn how to gracefully and gratefully accept your assistance (even if I’m still not very good at it!). Don’t give up on me yet; I’m still learning!
So, without further ado, here are the links! Thank you, Jessica!

You’re very, very welcome, Laura!!
And what a wonderful example of how we can influence the world around us…even in a small way! I bet that man will never forget you and how, when he behaved like a gentleman he was treated like one in return. Just as it should be.
Thanks a million for sharing!!
Miss and love you!
Love, Jess
